Child Treatment Programme

Research indicates that 93% of abusers who complete one of SAFE’s programmes are successfully rehabilitated.  A range of specialised programmes are offered for male and female clients, young people, children aged 10-12 years, Maori clients, offenders with an intellectual disability and internet offenders, especially child pornography offenders.  Typically a programme runs for 12 to 24 months after which SAFE provide on-going support and supervision so clients can safely regain their place in the community.  Families and partners are also offered counselling and support, giving them the knowledge and resources they need to prevent abuse happening again.  The following information is for the Child Programmes. Information on the other Programmes can be accessed from the menus above.

At the moment the SAFE YOUTH programme incorporates assistance for children aged 10-12 years who have sexually harmful behaviours.  Some have been sexually abused themselves, but most have not.   The programme aims to change their behaviour so they are able to go on and live a safe and healthy life.   Working with the families of children is an extremely important part of this programme.
